Today the following athletes rode in the 1st day of Track Competition at the 2003 European Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.
Brian Cowie and Murray Sloem (mens tandem) rode an 11.844 (12/13) in the 200M Sprint. Shawn Marsolais and Lisa Sweeny rode a PB with 13.722 finishing 6th of 6 teams. Mark Bretton (Amputee-LC 1) rode a 1:19.718 for 12th place in the Kilo (of 21 starters). In the Mens Tandem Pursuit Brian Cowie and Murray Solem rode a 5:00.354 for 9th place and Stephane Cote and PO Boily rode to 3rd place with a 4:47.960. They will advance into the next round and ride against the same team they beat today. The surprise of the day was Shawn Marsolais and Lisa Sweeny's Pursuit...they managed a PB by 14 seconds with a 4:06.235 and I expect they can go faster as I was instructing them to ease up as I was afraid they would blow up in the last Kilo.
All and all it was a successful day for Team Canada in Prague at the IPC European Championships, the weather coorperated and all of the events were completed on time. Tomorrow, Mark Bretton rides in the LC 1 Pursuit (4K), Jean Quevillion rides in the CP 3 Pursuit (3k), Stephane Cote and PO Boily advance to the 2nd round of the tandem pursuit (4k) and Shawn Marsolais and Lisa Sweeny advance to the 2nd round of the tandem womens pursuit (3k).
