Stage 1 - Bad Hill, 120km incl. Cat 1 climb, 5 laps of Bad Hill circuit plus lead in from town and back.

Teams representing Austria, Beligium, UK, USA, Canada, Barbados, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Martinique, Trinidad & Tobago, & more.. All eyes and local newspapers on Emil Abraham, the perennial champion. Midweek represented by Peter Morse, Chris Atkins, David Fry, Bruce Krip, and favourite Joe Giuiliano.

The start of the first climb was unusually aggressive in comparison to previous years. Chris Atkins flatted early, as did Joe G., D Fry sacrificed his wheel to get Joe back in the race early as possible, which worked out well. Continued attacks vs. Emil A. Peter Morse & Joe went into initial break, then Joe bridged up to lead group of 6. This group of 6 turned out to be the final selection, in which Joe placed 2nd.
