UCI confirms two major events to be held at Mont-Sainte-Anne: the Mountain Bike Marathon and World Cup!
Beaupré, Quebec, January 28, 2004- The UCI (International Cycling Union) has confirmed the return of the Mountain Bike Marathon to the Quebec City region for a second time. The Mountain Bike World Cup has also been awarded to Mont-Sainte-Anne for the 13th consecutive year, with the summer Olympic Games fast approaching. 2004 will also see the reappearance of Velirium in its second year at Mont-Sainte-Anne, an event which has been praised since its creation.
It's been confirmed! The UCI (International Cycling Union) has unveiled its competition calendar for the MTB Marathon World Series and the World Cup 2004. Mont-Sainte-Anne has been designated the fifth of seven stages on the UCI World Cup tour, the penultimate stage before the Olympic Games! The world's best athletes will compete in three disciplines: cross-country, downhill and 4-cross. The summer of 2004 will be an eventful one for mountain bike enthusiasts, culminating in the mountain biking event at the Olympic Games in Athens this August (28th and 29th). Mont-Sainte-Anne has also been retained by the UCI to host the second edition of the MTB Marathon World Series, which will be held on June 20, 2004.
The star attraction of this outdoor mountain bike festival will be the UCI Marathon World Series, with mountain bike trails linking Quebec City to Mont-Sainte-Anne. This cross-country test of stamina - over some 75km - was a big hit in 2003. It will be the only stage of the UCI Marathon to be held in North America; the other four will be held in Europe. At least 500 people are expected to take part.
The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup has become a stage not to be missed on the UCI World Cup tour. The host site is one of the preferred stops on tour, enjoyed by competitors, team leaders, journalists and officials alike. The event, which in 2001 was awarded the title of best stage in all categories on the UCI World Cup tour, will be held at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec for the 13th consecutive year.
Transformed in 2003 into a nine-day international festival - the new format having found favour with visitors, competitors, participants and sponsors -, the event will return with a bang in its promising new colours. The organising committee invite you to join in the fun at Mont-Sainte-Anne from June 19th - 27th for Velirium 2004!
Velirium is a sporting event spread out over nine days of non-stop activities for all those with a sense of adventure who love the outdoors. International competitions, mountain biking, activity areas for all the family, St Jean Baptiste celebrations, extreme sports, an enormous exhibition site, and a wide variety of social activities and musical entertainment - Velirium promises to be a unique event for those who love action, adventure, and having a great time!
