Unfortunately, the organizers of the 2003 GP Feminin International du Canada have informed the CCA that they are unable to produce the 2004 edition. This late decision will make alternative solutions difficult to find, however, the Saguenay-Lac St Jean group of organizers cannot cancel the GP Feminin because the event is a CCA property, awarded by the UCI (since 1997).

Now, the CCA is looking into whether new organizers are willing to come forward to maintain this important event for the development of women's cycling in Canada. The category of the event speaks for itself, it is a 2.9.2 event, not a World Cup, not a 2.9.1. This low category serves the purpose of the event: to develop women's cycling in Canada, not to attract top international teams. Former editions have not attracted a top level international field, with the exception of 2003, when it was organized one week before the Worlds in Hamilton.

We need this kind of event as an objective for provincial and national level women athletes. That is why this event was initiated in 1997. It would be a shame to see it disappear. For years, it was organized on a lower scale budget in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, and we believe it is possible to repeat this format. If there is a group of potential volunteers interested in taking over the organization of the GP Feminin, please contact the CCA Competition Coordinator (competition@canadian-cycling.com) to assess the possibility of salvaging the event for this year.
