Roy Asks for Release from Rona

According to a Radio Canada news report, Emily Roy has asked to be released from her contract with Team Rona. We first received word that this might be happening yesterday morning, and contacted Team Rona. Daniel Larouche, spokesman for the team, assured us that Roy was still with Rona. Since the Radio Canada report we have not not received a confirmation or denial from Rona.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (March 18, 2004) - Cyclist Lance Armstrong, figure skater Michelle Kwan and the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team have been voted the 2003 United States Olympic Committee SportsMan, SportsWoman and Team of the Year, respectively.

For the second consecutive year the top awards go to athletes from the sports of cycling and figure skating. In 2002, Armstrong and Sarah Hughes (Great Neck, N.Y.) received the trophies. Last year's team title went to the women's boblsed duo of Jill Bakken (Park City, Utah) and Vonetta Flowers (Hoover, Ala.).

Armstrong (Austin, Texas), who was also honored by the USOC as its 1999, 2001, and 2002 SportsMan of the Year, becomes the first athlete to be selected four times for the award. The cyclist won a record-tying fifth consecutive Tour de France in 2003.


Bikes Not Bombs Critical Mass Ride and Roll - Vancouver

On Friday, March 26, 2004, join fellow bicyclists, skaters, and bladers for a leisurely and spirited roll and ride through the streets of Vancouver supporting peace. Meet rain, shine, or snow at the Vancouver Art Gallery on the Georgia Street side between 5:00 to 5:30 p.m., and roll and ride at 6:00 p.m. Bring colorful and festive articles of peace, and ware colorful clothing. Decorated bicycles, trailers, costumes, signs, noisemakers, sound systems, drums, trailers, and wildly modified bicycles are all highly encouraged.

UBC riders meet 4-4:30 p.m. in front of the Student Union Building or at the UBC Bike Kitchen for a group ride to the Vancouver Art Gallery, phone 604-827-7333 for details.

East Van riders meet 4:00 p.m., leaving 4:30 p.m., from Grandview park on Commercial Drive for a group ride to the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Celebrated around the world, Critical Mass is a grassroots reclamation of public space -- on the last Friday of the month -- which allows cyclists and other self-propelled people to move safely and comfortably through city streets in a car-free space. Victoria Race Details

Race #2 in the Victoria Cycling League will be held on Sunday March 21 at 10:00 am (sign on at 9:45). The Caleb Pike course is a longer criterium course with two fast corners and a fast descent that carries you up (you hope) a steep hill. To race you must either be a member of an insured cycling club and/or hold a Cycling BC membership. There are two groupings to accommodate both experts and novices alike. To get to the course, take the Highlands exit off of the Trans Canada Highway. Go past Costco, Home Depot etc. and follow the road all the way until Caleb Pike road.
