Redlands Update
Our correspondent Leigh Hargrove (Pushbikes.ca) has called in a report from stage 2 of the Redlands Classic in California. This is the longest stage of the race - the Glen Oaks road race at 171 kilometres for the men and 129 kilometres for the women.
The men are approximately 50 kilometres into their race, and a break of seven is up the road. The break was the first successful one after numerous attempts, and broke clear at the 36 kilometres mark. In the break are eric Wohlberg (Sierra Nevada), Jacob Erker (Team Seasilver), Scott Moninger and Danny Pate (both Health Net), Aaron Olsen (Colavita Pro Cycling), Blake Caldwell (TIAA-CREF Development Team) and Caleb Manion (Jelly Belly). The lead is currently up to 90 seconds, with race leader Chris Horner's Webcor team chasing, assisted by U.S. Postal (which lost David Zabriskie yesterday to a crash - reportedly lots of scrapes, but nothing too serious). The women are just getting underway.
