MTB Trail Work Day at Hilton Falls Conservation Area April 25, 2004

Volunteers Needed

Hilton Falls requires your help to get the mountain bike trails ready for the upcoming season.
We have 4 tasks that we would like to accomplish, depending upon the number of volunteers.
1) improve entry & exits to bridges west of the Falls
2) construction of new drop on Bent Rim Trail
3) move the bridge above the Falls back into place
4) collect litter on the way up to the Falls

Trail work will begin at 9:30am on Sunday. Bring along rakes, brush axes, pruners. A few cordless drills with a bit for Robertson Head screws would be a big help. Waders for working on the bridge above the falls would be most useful. Bring work gloves, clothing suitable for the weather, your bike and your coffee mug!

In Appreciation - Free lunch, drinks, and admission to the trails are provided in appreciation of your volunteer work. IMBA Canada is also providing mini-pumps and some other gifts in appreciation.

Please call Hilton Falls at 905-854-0262 or email at < href=mailto:hiltonfalls@hrca.on.ca>hiltonfalls@hrca.on.ca to sign up.

Ontario Summer Games - Teams Needed!
Courtesy OCA

The Ontario Summer Games (OSG) form an integral part of the OCA's strategy to develop young riders and teams. One of the primary targets of the High Performance program is to develop riders who are competitive at the Canada Summer Games (CSG). Ideally we want to see young athletes compete in the Ontario Summer Games as a prelude to the Canada Summer Games, as the athletes in the CSG are typically 16-23 years of age. The ages that have been selected to participate in the 2004 Ontario Summer games are Male and Female ages 13-16. The 2004 Summer Games will take place August 19-22, 2004 at Boler Mountain in London, Ontario, and the OCA wants to send 48 athletes representing 12 regions (listed below) from across Ontario. In order to reach our goal of sending 48 athletes we need our affiliate clubs to assemble a team of riders made up of a minimum one female. The teams will compete over a two day period in three events. The events that have been selected are Mountain Bike XC, Mountain Bike points - short track, and Mountain Bike team relay. Teams must participate in all three events.

The 12 Regions which will be represented are:

1. Barrie
2. Bruce/Collingwood
3. Hamilton
4. Kitchener/Waterloo
5. London/Woodstock
6. Niagara/St. Catherines
7. North Bay/Sault Ste. Marie
8. Ottawa/Kingston
9. TD East (Durham, Uxbridge, Peterborough)
10. TD West (Mississauga/Milton)
11. Thunder Bay
12. Windsor/Sarnia

In order to send a team from each area we need to ensure all teams are accompanied by a team leader. The OCA highly recommends the team leader be a minimum Level 1 NCCP certified.(A screening process is in place for individuals not certified.) This individual can be a coach, manager or volunteer. The team leader must accompany athletes at all times. (Rooms are provided for these individuals.)

The fee for athletes and team leaders is $50/person (includes: food, housing and entry in all three events). The OCA is subsidizing the remaining costs.

Transportation is limited, but there are options. If transportation during the games is needed the OCA will have to be notified well in advance.
