Cycling BC Honours CC Photographer

Cycling BC has recognized three individuals for their contributions to the recently completed Superweek and road cycling in BC, including greg descantes, whose photos have graced the website and printed version of Canadian Cyclist on many occasions.

John McMurchy, Corporation of Delta, Parks & Recreation Department - Awarded the Contribution to Sport Development Award, for his administrative role with the Tour de Delta.

Rita Johnson, City of White Rock - Awarded the Contribution to Sport Development Award, for her administrative and organizational role with the 25th Annual Tour de White Rock.

Greg Descantes - Honored with the Award of Recognition for Photographic Excellence, for his photographic contributions to Cycling BC.


Millar Stripped of Title

The British Cycling Federation has announced that world time trial champion David Millar has been stripped of the ITT title he won last fall in Hamilton, after admitting to French police that he had used the performance enhancing drug EPO. He was also suspended from competition for two years. He had previously been fired from the Cofidis professional team. Millar could still appeal his suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but that is unlikely, given his recent interviews where he freely admitted using EPO. The UCI has not commented on the suspension, but assuming they uphold it, Australian Michael Rogers will become the world champion for the men's ITT.


NYC Results Correction

As the start list in the brochure for the NYC crit on 8/1/04 was wrong (they do them well ahead of time) - #4 for Navigators Insurance team was actually Mark Walters, not Ciaran Power - and since Mark had an outstanding day controlling the field almost single-handedly for the Navigators most of the race (note: the announcer was calling him 'the sheriff' much of the latter 1/2 of the race) - he at least deserves his place in the field. Please correct your listings - thanks alot.

FYI: Mark also won the Mt Holly-Smithville Classic RR in NJ on Sat 7/31 in solo break against a formidable field.
