The 2004 Alberta Hill Climb Time Trial Championship took place Sunday (September19th) at Mount Norquay in Banff National Park. Fair but cool weather brought out 87 competitors ranging in age from 16 to 76 years in age. The times weren't the fastest seen in recent years for all categories, but three new course records were set.
John Bereczki recorded a new time for the Paralympic Category at 21m14.0s. Newcomer to Alberta cycling, Neal Stoughton, recorded a time of 15m19.7s for the Masters 50-59 Category, a full 1m07s faster than the previous record set in 1994. And Danielle Kabush, riding for Gears Cycling Team out of BC set the new Women's record at 15m37.6s, over 40s faster than the prevous record on the same course. The fastest time of the day was made by Scott Manktelow, the new Men's Albert Hill Climb Champion, at 14m01.5s.
Well done to all the new provincial medalists and athletes competing Sunday.
