Hardwood Hills 'Cross - Ontario

November 1, 2004 - In just six days, Ontario's best cyclo-crossers will hit the trails of Hardwood Hills for one of the biggest races yet this season--the Hardwood Cross. The event is the first of its kind to take place at the famous ski and bike resort, and should set the stage for a one-of-a-kind day full of incredible racing. With a spectator-friendly course, ample parking and changing facilities, riders will feel spoiled rotten upon arrival. That's why this race is serving as a trial for the 2005 Nationals--this could be the course for the Championships next year!

The racing begins at 9:30a.m. with Novices, followed by Master B/C/Ds and Women at 11a.m, followed by the Juniors and the Elite and Master A men hitting the trails at 1pm. Registration opens at 8:30 am and closes 30 min before each start. 1 event race permits will be available.

To get to Hardwood, just take Highway 400 North to Barrie, from Toronto.
Following the 400 extension, take the first exit onto Forbes Road (exit #111) and turn left at the stop sign. Follow Forbes Road NE for 10km; Hardwood Hills will be on the left-hand side of the road.

Ontario Organizers Meeting and Date Setting

November 27th marks the date that Ontario organizers will get together at the Sport Alliance Building on Eglinton Avenue and plan out the 2005 racing schedule. There will be a meeting recommended for all organizers and potential organizers immediately preceding the date setting. This meeting will start at 10am and the date planning session will follow immediately after. Event Permit packages have already been mailed out to 'known' organizers. Blizzard Bike Club Awards Banquet - Fort St. John, BC

Fort St. John's Blizzard Bike Club will celebrate 2004, Saturday night, with their 23rd annual Awards Banquet. Various club riders will receive their trophies and accolades along with a delicious meal in a festive atmosphere. This function started back in 1982.

The Blizzard won the Challenge Cup for the third year in a row. It was a close one with the Grande Prairie squad winning two events and the Blizzards winning two. The locals did outpoint them, overall, however. Blizzards were also very active in triathlons. A contingent attended and did very well in Grande Prairie, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Edmonton and Penticton. Dean Lowry did well in the Penticton Ironman Triathlon. Individual highlights include Tessa Bilodeau winning the Alberta Junior Girls Championship. Rod Lewis, Mike Hientzman, Robert Martens, Pat and Stephen Ferris went through some 'hot' competition at the National Road Championships in Kamloops. Terry Stone brought back three gold medals from the BC Seniors Games.

The club does a variety of events. These include time trials, road races, duathlons, the Tri-Co-op 2004 Triathlon, mountain biking, Randonneur and cyclo-cross. Next year the club will have its usual events. The Tri-Co-op 2005 triathlon will be in its 8th year. The Canada Summer Games are happening next year, as well.

Masters age (over 30) athletes can look forward to the World Masters Games 2005 in Edmonton. There will be a couple of dozen local riders attending the road, mountain and triathlon events. The club will be looking forward to more indoor activities as winter encroaches. The club has started their winter 'turbo training' sessions. Some will continue to run and swim and some will be in the gym.
