Cyclo-cross Worlds Criteria

Canadian cyclo-cross riders who wish to participate in the 2005 cyclo-cross World Championships January 29 and 30 in St-Wendel, Germany, must meet the following criteria to be automatically eligible:

* Finish in the top three at the 2004 Cyclo-cross National Championships in Dieppe, New Brunswick, November 6, in the appropriate UCI category++
* Finish 4th or 5th at the 2004 cyclo-cross Nationals, and be within 110% of the winner’s time

The CCA also reserves the right to nominate a maximum of two (2) additional athletes to be eligible for the Worlds. These athletes must participate in the national championships.

Eligible riders must indicate their intent to participate in the Worlds after the cyclo-cross Nationals in Dieppe to the CCA representative (Kris Westwood), and they will have until December 15th to confirm their participation.

Please note that, because cyclo-cross is a non-Olympic discipline, the Worlds project is entirely self-funded: athletes are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and meals, and must purchase a clothing package from the CCA (riders who are on the National Team List in another discipline will receive their clothing free of charge).

The CCA will support the Worlds team by sending a manager at no expense to the athletes, by making hotel bookings and by providing some on-site transportation (it is obligatory to stay in the CCA-booked accommodation in case of UCI doping controls).

++ Riders must compete in their 2005 category: Elite Men, U23 Men, Junior Men, or Women (Elite and Junior women race together at Worlds, so Junior women wishing to compete in Worlds must meet the criteria in the combined class at nationals)

Critères de Participation pour le Championnat du Monde de Cyclo-cross

Les coureurs canadiens qui désirent participer au championnat du monde 2005 de cyclo-cross le 29 et 30 janvier à St. Wendel, Allemagne, doivent rencontrer les critères suivants pour être automatiquement éligible:

* Terminer parmi les trois premiers au championnat canadien de cyclo-cross à Dieppe, Nouveau Brunswick, le 6 novembre, dans la catégorie UCI applicable++
* Terminer 4ème ou 5ème au championnat canadien dans un délai de 110 pourcent du temps du vainqueur

L’ACC se réserve également le droit de nominer un maximum de deux (2) athlètes additionnels. Ces athlètes doivent obligatoirement participer au championnat canadien.

Les athlètes éligibles qui souhaitent participer au championnat du monde doivent indiquer leurs intentions au représentent de l’ACC à Dieppe (Kris Westwood), et ils doivent confirmer leur participation avant le 15 décembre.

Veuillez noter que le cyclo-cross n’est pas une discipline olympique, donc les athlètes sont entièrement responsables pour leur déplacement, hébergement et repas, et doivent acheter leurs vêtements de l’équipe nationale (les athlètes sur la liste de l’équipe nationale dans une autre discipline reçoivent leurs vêtements gratuitement).

Pour soutenir l’équipe, l’ACC fournira un manager pour l’équipe, arrangera l’hôtel et offrira le transport sur le site (à cause des inspections UCI antidopage, les athlètes sont obligés d’utiliser l’hébergement réservé par l’ACC).

++ Les athlètes sont obligés de courir dans leur catégorie 2005: élite hommes, espoir hommes, junior hommes, ou femmes (au championnat du monde les élites et juniors femmes courent ensemble, donc les juniors femmes qui souhaitent participer au championnat du monde doivent rencontrer les standards dans la catégorie féminine combiné au championnat canadien).
