Message from the Organizers of the 2004 BMX World Championships

Dear BMXers,

To help the relief efforts for the people of Asia, we have decided to auction off the banners used at the 2004 BMX World Championships. We have 20 banners in total. The entire amount raised will be donated to help the victims in Asia.

So, make a good bid - it's for a very good cause.

The starting bid is 50 Euros.
Who can improve on that ??????
The auction will run until 31 January 2005.

2005 Canadian Cycling BMX Development Project

February 12-13, Abbotsford, B.C.

Objective:
To select a team of six to eight athletes to compete as the Canadian National Team at two UCI events on the North American calendar: the NBL Easter Classic in Orlando, Florida (March 26) and the NBL Gator National in Tampa, Florida (April 2). During the week between the events, the athletes will also participate in a skills camp in Florida.

How this fits into our long-term plans:
Qualifications for the 2008 Olympics will be based on the UCI rankings. Of the 10 UCI events in North America, only two are in Canada. Therefore, we will need to travel to events in the U.S. in order to qualify for the Olympics. This project will be an opportunity for riders to get a taste of this kind of UCI racing, and it will also give us a chance to see how we stack up against the competition in North America.

Why Florida?
Of all the UCI events in the U.S., the Florida races are the only two that are both on consecutive weekends and close geographically, which makes them the most economical to attend.

Selection process
The Canadian Cycling Association has chosen to use the Abbotsford Indoor competitions on February 12 and 13 to select the athletes for this project. The Abbotsford Indoor is one of very few locations where there is BMX activity in Canada at this time of year.

Carded BMX athletes will be given first right of refusal on this project and do not have to attend the selection event, but they must indicate their participation by February 11 or their participation is forfeit.

Selection will be made by the Canadian Cycling Association coach attending the events in Abbotsford, and will be based on the results of the races on both days, as outlined below. There will be separate selection races for elite men, elite women, junior men and junior women. Racing will follow the usual three-moto format.

Spots will be offered as follows:

Elite men
1. Rider with lowest cumulative finishing placing over both days' racing (number of moto wins to be used as tiebreaker)
2. Discretionary choice by coach based on observed performances in Abbotsford

Elite women
1. Rider with lowest cumulative finishing placing over both days' racing (number of moto wins to be used as tiebreaker)
2. Discretionary choice by coach based on observed performances in Abbotsford

Junior men
1. Rider with lowest cumulative finishing placing over both days' racing (number of moto wins to be used as tiebreaker)
2. Discretionary choice by coach based on observed performances in Abbotsford

Junior women
1. Rider with lowest cumulative finishing placing over both days' racing (number of moto wins to be used as tiebreaker)
2. Discretionary choice by coach based on observed performances in Abbotsford

The CCA coach in charge of selection reserves the right to adjust the size and composition of the team based on athletes' readiness to race at the international level, but in no case will the team exceed eight athletes.

In the event one spot in a given category is already taken by a carded athlete, the other spot will be a discretionary choice by the coach based on observed performances in Abbotsford.

Funding
Athletes selected to this project will have travel from the nearest major airport to their residence and accommodation in Florida paid for by the CCA. Food and incidentals will be the athletes' responsibility.

Please note that athletes selected to this project are representing Canada and should conduct themselves accordingly at all times.

Processus de sélection pour le projet 2005 de développement BMX de l'Association cycliste canadienne

Objectif:
Sélectionner une équipe de six à huit athlètes pour représenter le Canada à deux épreuves UCI dans le calendrier nord-américain : le NBL Easter Classic à Orlando, Floride (26 mars) et le NBL Gator National à Tampa, Floride (2 avril). Durant la semaine entre les épreuves, les athlètes participeront également à un camp de perfectionnement en Floride.

Comment ce projet entre dans nos plans long terme:
La qualification pour les Jeux Olympiques en 2008 sera basée sur le classement UCI. Des 10 épreuves UCI sur le calendrier nord-américain, seulement deux sont au Canada. Nous avons donc besoin de voyager aux épreuves aux États-Unis pour nous qualifier pour les jeux.

Ce projet permet à nos coureurs de prendre connaissance de ce genre de compétition UCI, et nous donne également l'occasion d'évaluer notre niveau par rapport à nos concurrents en Amérique du nord.

Pourquoi Floride?
De toutes les épreuves UCI aux États-Unis, les deux courses en Floride sont les seules dans la même région et lors de fin de semaine consécutive. Ils sont donc les plus économiques pour nous.

Processus de sélection
L'Association cycliste canadienne a choisi les compétitions de l'Abbotsford Indoor les 12 et 13 février pour sélectionner les athlètes pour ce projet. L'Abbotsford Indoor est un des seuls lieux au Canada où il y a de l'activité BMX à ces dates.

Les athlètes brevetés en BMX seront invités automatiquement pour ce projet et ne sont pas obligés de participer aux épreuves de sélection, mais ils doivent confirmer leur participation avant le 11 février ou leur sélection sera annulée.

La sélection sera effectuée par l'entraîneur de l'Association cycliste canadienne présent aux épreuves de sélection à Abbotsford, et sera basée sur les performances à ces courses (voir ci-dessous). Il y aura des épreuves de sélection séparées pour les élite hommes, élite femmes, junior hommes et junior femmes. Les courses se dérouleront sous le format traditionnel des trois motos.

Les positions seront offertes selon les critères suivants:

Élite hommes
1. Le coureur avec le meilleur résultat cumulatif des deux jours de course (le nombre de victoires aux motos sera utilisé pour départager les cas d'égalité)
2. Choix discrétionnaire par l'entraîneur, basé sur les performances notées à Abbotsford

L'entraîneur de l'ACC se réserve le droit de modifier la grandeur de l'équipe et sa composition selon la capacité des athlètes à performer au niveau international, mais il n'y aura en aucun cas plus de huit athlètes.

Si une des places dans une catégorie est déjà confiée à un athlète breveté, l'autre place sera un choix discrétionnaire par l'entraîneur basé sur les performances notées à Abbotsford.

Soutien financier
L'ACC payera le voyage, à partir de l'aéroport le plus proche de leur domicile, ainsi que l'hébergement aux athlètes durant leur séjour en Floride. Les repas et les autres coûts seront de la responsabilité des athlètes.

Veuillez noter que les athlètes sélectionnés pour ce projet représentent le Canada et doivent se comporter en ce sens en tout temps.
