Burnaby Velodrome Meet Day 3

Snow? What Snow?

While it was snowing and cold outside, the heat was on and the riders were flying inside Canada's only indoor velodrome in Burnaby, BC. Riders from Alberta, Washington state, Vancouver Island, and Greater Vancouver went head to head in 3 exciting days of the best winter track racing west of Manchester England. When snow stopped several riders from Oregon from attended the event, over 45 competitors raced across all three categories.

In the A Group, both the sprint and endurance events produced some great rides. And the man who managed to do them both, Murray Solem (Team Blak Dog) took the overall A Omnium title, edging out Symmetrics riders Christian Meier, Min Van Velzen, and Marsh Cooper who focused on the endurance events. Lars Madsen took the Sprints, with brother Steen Madsen winning the Keirin, ahead of heavy hitters Joel Regimbald, Murray Solem and Keith Bruneau. The endurance events belong to Symmetrics, with Christian Meier lapping the field 5 times on the way to his 100 laps Feature Points Race victory on Saturday and Min Van Velzen lapping the field 3 times during the Feature Scratch Race on Sunday.

In the B Group, another all-rounder, Andy George (Team Blak Dog) also picked up the Omnium title. Andy's closest competitor in the omnium, Jeff Ain (Devo) was knocked out of action in a 3 person crash on Sunday's Scratch Race, 20 laps into the 60 lap event. Newcomer to the track, James Shaw finished 2nd in the omnium, after winning the Keirin and placing well in all other events. Jeremy Storie (Devo) took both the Feature Scratch and the Feature Points, showing some great speed and endurance against the B pack.

15 year old Cody Campbell (Soliton) gave new rider John Perkins a run for his money in the C Group Omnium. Cody and fellow youngster Austin Macdougall (Devo) could not find a hole in Perkins' armour as the two took turns continually attacking him in various races. Perkins took top spot by winning 3 out of 4 Omnium events.
