SAS Canada Donates Racing Bike to Olympic Cyclist Lori-Ann Muenzer

SAS Canada will donate a 2005 white and blue custom Look 486 to Canadian gold medallist Lori-Ann Muenzer. Muenzer won Canada's first-ever Olympic cycling gold medal in Athens last year. She says the new bike will help her train and prepare for future competition, including a planned return to the Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, China.

Elite athlete Lori-Ann Muenzer is not only an Olympic gold medallist, but also the recent winner of Canadian Press' Female Athlete of the Year 2004 and Canadian Cyclist of the Year (Female) 2004.

Inspired by Lori-Ann's spirit and achievement, SAS decided to donate the bike after hearing her first-hand account of the government's limited funding for Olympic athletes. It is a little known fact that Lori Ann had to rely on the kindness of the Australian and French cycling teams who lent her tires so that she could complete her final gold medal race -hence SAS' donation of the bike.

Lori Ann will be speaking at SAS' company meeting and will receive the gift following her talk.

2010 Commonwealth Games Back to Hamilton?

Reports are circulating that the New Delhi's successful bid to stage the 2010 Commonwealth Games could be in trouble. The Secretary-General of the Indian Olympic Association has said that bureaucratic wrangling has meant that an organizing committee still has not been formed, 14 months after New Delhi was awarded the Games, and missing four deadlines. Indian media is also criticizing promises by the government to cover all of the estimated $560 million cost of staging the Games. New Delhi won the bid to host the Games against Hamilton after a controversial last minute (pre-voting) announcement to provide $100,000 US to the sports bodies of each of the 72 Commonwealth countries.

The possibility that the Games will be pulled from New Delhi is a long shot at this time, but Hamilton bid officials and the mayor say that they would be willing to reinstitute the Hamilton bid if asked by Commonwealth Games officials.
