SORCA (Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association) is pleased to announce the selection of the members of the inaugural "Team Squamish."
"Team Squamish" is a community based racing club created to promote the sport of cycling and to encourage developing racers in Squamish. The club is supported by both Tantalus Bike Shop and Corsa Cycles and has as its major sponsor Greg Gardner GM.
"We've got many local businesses that have bought into the concept and are supporting "Team Squamish," said SORCA President Cliff Miller. "We're able to use that support and provide training for the young racers and pay some race entry fees for the riders."
The team is divided into three parts. "Elite Team" members will be those racing in a category recognized with a national championship. "Development Team" members will be active in cycling and racing in the high school series, but are not yet racing at the national level.
There will also be club level membership available to anyone simply by being a SORCA member and purchasing a "Team Squamish" jersey.
The members this year's "elite team" are Brennan Covey, James Crowe, Lisa Dickson, Ryan Edwards, Meghan Kindree, Neal Kindree, Kyle Ritchie, and Heather Rochetta.
The "development team" includes Gavin Arnott, Jonathan Aubry, Chris Bandy, Gordon Booth, Philip Cairns, Christie Cunneyworth, Michel Demers, Danielle Dornik, Jordan Drinovz, Kyle Fortin, Drew Gosnall, Harrison Gould, Lauren Hughes, Daniel MacKellar, Jaclyn McClements, Michael Mee, Aislinn Merkel, Miranda Millar, Molly Patteson, Kyle Salter, and Kyla Valleau.
"It was a difficult task to choose the team," said organizer, Paul Kindree. "We spent a lot of time and considered several factors in an effort to get a team that was balanced and competitive. But we think we've got a group of people who will represent the town, the team, the sponsors and the Squamish biking community admirably," he said
Team Squamish begins training immediately with some riders competing in their first road race on February 22nd.
All riders are looking forward to the start of the XC and downhill seasons at the end of March.

BlakDog Bikes, New BC Team
BlakDog Bikes is proud to announce the formation of a new team for the 2005 cycling season. For its inaugural year, BlakDog has fielded a team of Senior Men and Women to compete at the provincial and national levels of the road and track cycling calendar. The mens team has been created to be a mixture of senior and development riders with the emphasis of creating a strong program for developing young riders in the coming years.
Current senior members have experienced high level international competition and results in such venues as World Masters Track Championships, The Greek Paralympics, and most recently some World Cup Track events.
The Teams plan for this coming year is to introduce the newer riders to higher levels of competition, with plans to qualify our junior rider for the Tour of Abitibi and field a full elite team for the nationals. The team will also be competing in road and track races throughout Western Canada and the Pacific North West of the U.S.
BlakDog Bikes is located in Coquitlam B.C. They have been a full service shop for both road and track that has been serving the community for 10 years. The owner, Kam Nijjar, has helped bring on board a handful of other sponsors to help develop the team. Co-sponsors include Popeyes Supplements, FSA components, Biemme clothing, and The Hop and Vine pub.
