SG/Espoirs Laval National Cycling Team victorious in Albany!




The SG/Espoirs Laval National Cycling Team, returning from their training camp in South Carolina, took part in the first race of the Jonhny Cake Lane Spring Series, a 9lap, 100km road race in the suburbs of Albany.

From the gun, Joël Dion Poitras, François Sztuke and a rider from the Colavita Bolla Olive Oil Team, attacked and gained time on the peloton . They were soon being reeled in by Charly Vivès who had come across the gap with another Colavita rider. Shortly before crossing the gap, Vivès attacked and dropped the Colavita rider. This group of 4 then solidified their gap and began attacking their opponent with 2 laps to go.

Sztuke and Dion Poitras eventually found themselves alone in the lead, while Vivès sat in the wheel of the lone Colavita rider. Behind, Marc-Wayne Addison and Antoine Stundner came out of the pack with Michael McGrinley of CVL. With 2km to go, Vivès was caught by this group of chasers. Dion Poitras and Sztuke crossed the line hands-raised after a 100km breakaway effort. The commissaries awarded the win to Dion Poitras, and Stundner took the last step on the podium. Carl Desroches finished 4th and 5th in the pack sprint to round out a great day for the SG/Espoirs Laval team.

Thus National SG/Espoirs Laval holds the top three GC spots in the Spring Series with two races to go, the 26th of March and the 2nd of April.

Le National SG/Espoirs Laval, tout juste revenu de leur camp d’entraînement en Caroline du Sud, prenait part samedi 19 Mars à la Jonhny Cake Lane Spring Classic, course sur route de 100km (9 tours) disputée en banlieue d’Albany. À peine la course lancée, Joël Dion Poitras et François Sztuke sortaient du peloton avec un coureur de l’équipe Colavita Bolla Olive Oil. Ils étaient imités 500m plus loin par Charly Vivès qui sortait du peloton en compagnie d’un autre coureur de l’équipe Colavita Bolla Olive Oil. Vivès faisait la jonction seul sur le groupe de tête après avoir attaquer le coureur avec lequel il se trouvait. Ce quatuor, creusât l’écart et commencère à attaquer leur seul adversaire à deux tours de l’arrivée. Sztuke et Dion Poitras se retrouvèrent seul en tête tandis que Vivès restait dans la roue du coureur adverse. Derrière, Marc-Wayne Addison et Antoine Stundner, sortaient du peloton en compagnie de Michael McGrinley de CVL. Avec 2 km à faire Vivès se fît reprendre par le groupe de poursuivants, victime d’une fringuale après avoir fait sauter le coureur de Colavita Bolla Olive Oil. Dion Poitras et Sztuke ont franchis la ligne d’arriver après 100km d’échappée, main dans la main. La victoire était remise par les officiels à Dion Poitras, Stundner complétait le podium. Carl Desroches, terminait 4e du sprint de peloton arriver tout juste derrière Vivès, lui aussi après 100km d’échappée.

National SG/Espoirs Laval, s’empare donc des trois premières positions de leader au classement général, dont l’étape numéro 2 et 3 seront disputées le 26 Mars et le 2 Avril.
