"Le Raid Pierre Harvey Challenge

QUEBEC CITY, JULY 29, 1998 - Back for a seventh edition, the 1998 "Le Raid Pierre Harvey" will be held on August 28, 29 and 30 riding on the strenght of its one- year experience as an internationally sanctionned event, a very sought after standing on the World Cup circuit.

"Le Raid Pierre Harvey" challenge is a mountain biking race that takes place over three days. The first leg of the race is 102 km long, the second 103 km and the last, 85 km for a total of 290 km.

The roads giving access to the circuit are paths through the Laurentides park, between the towns of Chicoutimi and Lac Beauport in the Province of Québec, Canada.

Participants in the Raid can register in two categories, Adventure or Performance.

The Raid is gaining wider international recognition with every edition by offering senior elite racers an opportunity to win Cup Circuit points.

To take part in this unique event, a growing number of racers from across North America, Europe and even Australia have put the Raid on their annual montain bike racing agenda.

We invite you to come and share the excitement of the Raid., while discovering or rediscovering the beauty of the Saguenay and Quebec City areas.

IMBA Trail Care Crew Comes to Canada

Toronto - The Canadian Mountain Bicycling Alliance (CMBA) will host the International Mountain Bicycling Association‚s Trail Care Crew on August 6 - 10.

In just five months on the road, the two Subaru / IMBA Trail Care Crews have helped lead 115 projects in 25 states across the USA. Ric Balfour and Holly Hill (Trail Care Crew #2) have worked side by side with thousands of mountain bikers and hundreds of land managers since their Cactus Cup kick-off on March 15, 1998. They‚ve also had a chance to ride with „locals‰ in each place they stay.

Mountain bike advocates in Southern Ontario will truly benefit from Ric and Holly‚s experience. They‚re visit to Southern Ontario begins Thursday, August 6th in Toronto with a „Ride the Don Valley Trails with the IMBA Trail Care Crew - and plan for future maintenance projects‰. Then on Friday the Crew will head out to Bloomfield, Ontario for a „Trail Opening & Dedication‰, and survey the trails with local advocates from the Bloomfield Bicycle Club. On Saturday its up to the Collingwood area, and a trail day with the Beaver Valley Mountain Bike Club and the Ontario Cycling Association. Sunday and Monday will be spent in the Hamilton and Dundas areas meeting with local advocates and land managers. This is a pretty busy schedule for the Crew - but we think they‚re up for it, given their previously hectic schedule.

The CMBA is supported by the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada.
