Adrenalin Update #3

It's 9:30 on a bright sunny morning here at Hardwood Hills, site of the Kokanee 24 Hrs of Adrenalin. The sunrise and the aroma of fresh brewed coffee creates an atmosphere here akin to spring fever. Tired and dirty faces are smiling once again as the energy level rises with only 2.5 hours to go to the finish of the race. The rules state that a team can go out on their last lap right up until one second before 12 noon but, must finish after 12:00 to get an official standing. The ruling creates a flurry of strategy sessions in these last hours as folks try to figure out if they have to go out on another lap or, if they can make it in to send their last rider out just before noon. The Chevy cow bells will get a great workout this morning as they help create the atmosphere and excitement of the race finish. Unlike other races, the "finish" happens anywhere from noon to about 1:30 as riders complete their last laps. For those done early, there's a pasta party to keep the carbos up and, entertainment by GT Bicycles Hans 'no way' Rey. The awards ceremony will happen around 2:30 pm today and final results will be posted at the end of the day.

With 354 teams, we can only update the top three in each category. I have to say however, that the spirit of this particular event is more about having fun than winning for most people competing. For example:

*Lowell "no la-z-boy here" Greib is doing all five Adrenalin races solo and is currenly in lucky 13th place.

*People travel from afar to participate in this race including Colorado, Quebec, Buffalo and Nova Scotia

*Team names are fun too: Endo Kings, Mega Sore Ass Wrecks, Gears for Fears, Fusion Treadmuffins, 10 Wheels-5 Guys-2 Stupid, Chafed Bum Racing, Better Dust Than Rust...I think you get the picture

As I promised, there have been lots of changes in standings overnight. Here are the standings as of 9:07 am:

SOLO - Female
1. Joany Verschuuren 10 laps
2. Julie Forsbrey 9 laps
3. Carol Loucks 9 laps
4. Hellaina Rothenburg 9 laps
5. Bridget Bonderanko 5 laps
Notes: Hellaina won last year and Julie the year before (she had to quit early last year due to a knee injury). Today's underdog however appears to be Joany who had a slow start, perhaps pacing herself, but has now moved to first place. Carol was second last year.

SOLO - MALE
1. John Stamstad 17 laps
2. Andy Johnston 15 laps
3. Perry Bizyk 15 laps
Notes: John is trying for a three-peat here and as per his usual strategy, he starts slow and overtakes, overnight. Andy placed third last year.

2 PERSON
1. Mocktop 16 laps 20:12
2. Dirt Devils 16 laps 20:38
3. Cool Thing 16 laps 20:46
Notes: A close race here, it will be interesting to see if the standings remain the same at the end of the race.

4 PERSON ELITE
1. Disciples of Dirt 22 laps
2. Hide Your Daughters 20 laps 20:27
3. Who Brought The Beer 20 laps 20:59
Notes: Although the order in this category has not changed...the Disciples of Dirt have 2 laps up on the other two teams who are fairly close together.

5 PERSON - ALL FEMALE - UNDER 135
1. The Nailbiterz 15 laps
2. JTS 13 laps

5 PERSON - ALL FEMALE - OVER 135
1. Nitemares 16 laps 20:37
2. Rip N Hammer Chix 16 laps 20:54
3. Blazing Bitches 14 laps
Notes: A change in order in the first two teams but the race is still too close to call.

5 PERSON OPEN AGE - UNDER 99
1. Ford Devinci 19 laps
2. SI Racing I 17 laps 20:11
3. Special Ed Inc 17 laps 20:14
Notes: Still a close race here between 2nd and 3rd as only 3 minutes separate them.

5 PERSON OPEN AGE- 100-149
1. Gears Racing 21 laps
2. Mother Goldfish Crew 20 laps 20:16
3. Trail Blazers Blue 20 laps 20:22
Notes: Another close race with only 4 minutes separating second and third.

5 PERSON OPEN AGE - 150-199
1. Five Screaming Inches 20 laps
2. Canadian All Sports 20 laps
3. D'Ornellas Racing 19 laps

5 PERSON OPEN AGE 200+
1. Senile Cyclists 19 laps 20:09
2. Kamikaze I 19 laps 20:55
3. Boyd's NiteRiders 19 laps 21:08
Notes: A close enough race here that a technical problem could see a switch in order

CORPORATE (6-10 riders)
1. Hardwood Hills 21 laps
2. Team KHS 20 laps 20:18
3. Team Ski Pro Shop 20 laps 20:32

Notes: Looks like the locals who ride these trails all the time have moved ahead overnight and lapped the other two teams. There is a close race between 2nd and 3rd.

AND THAT'S ALL FOR NOW. STAY TUNED FOR RACE RESULTS LATER IN THE DAY. JR SIGNING OFF.
