Cross-Country About to Start
We just got off the phone with Greg Flaaten, our eyes and ears in Silverstar, B.C. at the Mountain Bike Nationals, and he reports that the Elite men and women (and Espoir men) are lined up for their start.
The circuit is 9 kilometres in length, and about 40% singletrack; the riders climb 1200 feet (just under 400M) per lap. Greg reports that it is starting to get pretty chewed up after all the racing and training that has been going on this week so far. The course is also very powdery and dusty. There are no particularly treacherous sections to the course, just unrelenting ups and downs - so it should be tough. The men do 5 laps, the women 4. There are approximately 80 men in the Elite men‚s field, 60 women and 45 Espoirs.
Greg also reports that it is still quite chilly, and the sky is partially cloudy. As we were speaking, rain drops were just starting to be felt.
We will be back with an update in about an hour.
