Blizzard Bike Club Fort St. John, BC
Robert Martens was Club Road Champion for a record seventh time, Sunday. He edged out Robin Baillie by a bike length to win the 60 km Cecil Lake/Golatta Creek event with a time of 1:45:43 hours. Tim Gladysz out sprinted Roger St. Jean for third at 1:49:13. Three time club champion Pat Ferris won his group sprint for 5th at 1:51:27.
Twenty three riders were out under great conditions. The pack shattered at the 15 km.turn. It was down to Robin Baillie and Robert Martens by the 20 km mark. The two rode to the finish, with Robert unleashing his excellent sprint for another win.
Rod Lewis was 6th and Sam Keats 7th, both at 1:51:27. Bob Andrews came in 8th, at 1:53:07 after suffering leg cramps. Matt Sparling won the sprint for 9th at 1:56:12 form Terry Stone, Richard Wood and Gord Harris. Kevin Cooper was 13th at 2:01:13. Barb Polehoykie 2:02:05, Joseph Gladysz 2:04:44, Trisha Gladysz 2:19:15 and Adam Currie two seconds later.
Lisa Verbisky was first in the 30 km. event with 1:01:13. Calvin Bell was second at 1:03:57 and Jack Gladysz third at 1:26:18. Dawn Gladys was 4th at 1:26:33 and Lois Harris 2:06:40.
Stephen Ferris was 11th at the Tour of Whiterock, Cat. 3 criterium, in Vancouver, Saturday. His next race is the Tour of Delta Criterium next Sunday. This is all part of the BC Superweek races.
Fifteen Blizzards will be traveling to Edmonton this week for the World Masters Games. They will be competing in the Triathlon, Mountain bike, time trial, road race and criterium races.
-Thursday Baldonnel time trial at 7 pm.
-Sunday ride from Cosmic Grounds at 10:00 am.
-Monday is the Ole Lake ride and BBQ, at 10:00 am from OLE Lake.
