New World Championship Event
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced a "great competition among nations" to be added to the Mountain Bike World Championships in 1999 - the Team Relay. Each country enters one team, consisting of an Elite Men, Elite Woman, Espoir (Under 23) Man and Junior Man. Each rider does a single lap of the cross-country course, handing off to the next rider. The first country to get all of its riders across the line is the Team Relay World Champions. Too bad it wasn't held this year, Canada could field our national champions (Alison Sydor, Roland Green, Seamus McGrath and Ryder Hesjedal) and clean up.
Coming up later today...
World Cup (Road) #8 from Switzerland, and our editorial on the future of Canadian cycling.
