CCA News
The CCA has released its Quarterly Report for Q2. The full report can be found (in PDF form) Here. While COO Steve Lacelle acknowledges that not all goals have been met, it appears that the CCA is certainly on an improved track towards administrative and fiscal responsibility.
The key area that continues to require improvement is Development - the CCA is well behind on its objectives there and, as was seen at the recent world championships, continues to rely (for the most part) on existing stars. The Sprockids initiative in particular is behind schedule, with BTAC (Bicycle Trade Association of Canada) demanding answers for the funding it has put into this program.
Overall, we give the CCA an A- grade, which could improve to an A if the development programs improve.
CCA Names New National Team Coaches
October 11, 2005 (Ottawa, ON) - The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce the hiring of Stephen Burke as National Paralympic Head Coach, and Vincent Jourdain as Assistant National Road and Track Coach.
Both coaches are familiar faces in Canadian cycling. Burke has been involved with the Canadian Cycling Association's Paralympic programs since before the Sydney Paralympics, and until Sept. 30 was employed by the National Cycling Centre - Calgary, where he will continue to be based.
Jourdain has been coaching in Quebec since the early 1990s, and more recently worked as Quebec provincial coach. He will be based out of his home in St-Bruno and the Centre National de Développement Cycliste de Bromont in Quebec.
"I'm very happy that we have been able to hire Vincent and Stephen so quickly," said High Performance Director Kris Westwood. " One of our key goals this year was to build our strength in the coaching department, and I feel that we have made big strides by investing in these experienced and capable leaders."
