Grand Prix Feminin International Stage 1
We received a phone call from Chrissy Redden who told us that todays 103.4km stage was held in sunny, dry conditions with the temperature at about 26 degrees. There were 2 climbs in todays stage, neither of which were long, just shsort, steep "Leg Burners".
The pack stayed together until the bottom of the first climb (46km), where Chrissy launched an attack. Half way up the hill she was caught and passed by a group of 5 riders (Dunlap, Sydor,Palmer, Bessette, and Alexander). This group had a reasonable gap on the pack by the top of the climb, and since every major team was represented, no one from the pack was willing to chase. By the end of the race they had nearly 6 minutes on the pack and Alison Dunlap had maintained her Maillot Or, but Alison Sydor is nipping at her heels and there are 3 other riders who are just seconds back.Stage 1 1 Alison Dunlap USA Germany 2:41.25 2 Alison Sydor CAN Canada s.t. 3 Sue Palmer CAN Québec Tour-Air Transat s.t. 4 Lyne Bessette CAN CC Vezar-Sugoi s.t. 5 Caroline Alexander GBR Team Elita s.t. 6 Melanie Nadeau CAN CC Vezar-Sugoi at 5:51 7 Annie Gariepy CAN Team Elita 8 Kim Langton CAN Team Elita 9 Sabine Gentieu FRA Québec Tour-Air Transat 10 Melanie McQuaid CAN Canada 11 Anne Samplonius CAN Québec Tour-Air Transat 12 Kathleen Millar CAN Team Ontario 13 Regina Marunde GER Germany 14 Allyson Fox CAN Team Ontario 15 Amy Jarvis CAN Team Elita 16 Fanny Larivière CAN Québec Tour-Air Transat 17 Cybil Diguistini CAN Team Elita 18 Élisabeth Chevanne-Brunel FRA Québec Tour-Air Transat 19 Patricia Sinclair CAN Canada 20 Sabine Spitz GER Germany 21 Melanie Dorion CAN Team Elita 22 Teah Goldstein CAN BC Team 23 Sandy Espeseth CAN BC Team 24 Chrissy Redden CAN Canada 25 Sophie St-Jacques CAN Team Elita 26 Darnelle Moore CAN BC Team all s.t. 27 Élise Grondin CAN CC Vezar-Sugoi 10:38 28 Simone Esslinger GER Germany 29 Nadia Roy CAN CC Vezar-Sugoi 30 Karen Timewell CAN BC Team 31 Nora Rösch GER Germany all s.t. 32 Sophie Radecki CAN Team Ontario 15:44 outside time limit 33 Emmanuelle Dubé CAN CC Vezar-Sugoi 34:48 34 Verena Berger GER Germany s.t.
