This 3 day event: 285 km of off road cycling started in Chicoutimi this morning and will end up near Quebec City on Sunday. Our Editor Rob Jones is joining the riders for part of the tour and will be sending in stories and photos.

This year there are 412 participants, (twice the number who participated last year) including Bill Hurley and George Visser. Bill (who is last years winner) is using the event as a tune-up for the worlds in 3 weeks.

Todays 102 km stage was won by George Visser

THE 50th QUEBEC-MONTREAL RACE

The famous race has a new organizer and a new formula to celebrate it's 50th anniversary.

Tomorrow morning, August 29th, it is the Cyclo-Challenge for the bravest riders who will leave the Via Rail train station in St-Lambert at 6:30 to pedal 265 kilometers to Quebec City via route 132. They will enter the "Old Capital" on the old Quebec bridge to finish on Grande Allée.

Then, at 9:00 pm, 125 of the best racers in the country will participate in a Nocturne near the Parliment Buildings.

Sunday, August 30th, 150 cyclists, including Mountain bike teams from Canada, Australia and Ireland, preparing for the World Cup and World Championships in Mont Ste-Anne, will leave Quebec City at 8 a.m. for the 266 kilometer classic. They are expected to arrive at the Molson O'Keefe brewery around 2:45 p.m..
