Coaching Internship Program
Once again this year the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) will be supporting the development of young coaches through the Coaching Internship Program (CIP). Final approval of the funding for this program is pending but it is expected within the next week. Once confirmed, the CIP will provide 20 subsidies of $12,000 to enable organizations to hire young professionals for coaching positions leading to permanent full-time employment. These subsidies are made possible by funding from the National Career Focus program of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).
Details regarding the 2006 CIP and the application process will be e-mailed by the end of November. The turn-around time for submission will be quite tight as positions are scheduled to begin early in the new year. In the meantime, until the 2006 program is launched, requirements for the 2004-2005 Coaching Internship Program can still be found at:
www.coach.ca/e/grants/internships.htm.
Applicants should note that the 2006 program has a greater focus on providing interns with a mentorship relationship. Mentors and interns will work together to strengthen the intern's skills and address areas of weakness. Interns and mentors will develop a learning plan which will be used to measure the intern's progress during their employment. Another addition to the 2006 CIP is the employer's requirement to provide a statement as to how their organization will provide the intern with a safe, supervised, and meaningful work experience.
Organizations and interns are encouraged to begin thinking about their submission as soon as possible.
