Bromont World Cup report

All of the top 25 women in the World Cup points will start tomorrow. The race is to start at noon EDT. Each lap is 7.8 km and they will do 4 laps. The course is 60 percent double track or fire road and 40 percent single track - 40 percent each descending and climbing and 20 percent flat. There is one major climb about half way through the lap.

There will be a total of 57 starters. The organizers have waived the requirement that all starters must have UCI points. The Air Canada strike has stranded some riders in Europe and it was beginning to look like the fields would be small.

Sue Palmer, who earlier in the season was unwell due to a parasitic infection, is now healthy and will start tomorrow. It is good to see her back in action.

The weather for tomorrow is expected in to be sunny, with temperatures in the low 20's. Great racing weather.

1998 Killington Stage Race

Killington, VT (Sept. 4, 1998) -- Against a backdrop of crisp blue skies and early Vermont foliage, several well-known names in road cycling pumped to winning finishes in the second stage of the 12th Annual Killington Stage Race today with veteran Saturn cyclist Karen Bliss Livingston placing first in the Sunrise Mountain Road Race for the third time in her career. Almost simultaneously Saeco-Timex‚s Kendra Wenzel crossed the line after making an early break in the first 18 mile loop of the race. Jennifer Evans, riding for Shaklee crossed third. Despite today‚s leaders, defending women‚s Killington Stage Race champion Linda Jackson still holds the lead overall time after two days of this five day event.

U-S National Cycling Champion George Hincapie riding for U.S. Postal placed third among the Pro I-II pack but was outpaced by number one winner Gord Fraser of Mercury. Michael Allen of Saturn rode into second place. Overall leader after two days is Scott Moninger of the Navigators Team. The men‚s Pro I-II course was 111 miles overall.

Stage Three, the VISA Road Race of the 12th Annual Killington Stage Race takes the some 800 cyclists through Central Vermont, including a steep uphill climb at Brandon Gap and 104 miles of distance for the Pro I-II men.
