June 1/21 12:53 pm - Trek Issues Recall on Bontrager Pedals

Posted by Editoress on 06/1/21

Trek has issued a voluntary recall on Bontrager Satellite City pedals that were sold as original equipment on certain Trek bicycles as well as an after-market product. The affected pedals have "ZTR02" molded on the axle side of each pedal body.

If the recalled pedals are incorrectly installed by the retailer during assembly, they can fall off the crank arm of the bicycle, posing fall and injury hazards to the rider.

As of May 12, 2021, the company has received 16 reports of pedal disengaging from crank in Canada, and 1 report of minor injury. In the United States, the company has received 132 reports of the recalled pedals loosening, locking up or falling off, including 7 reports of injuries, including scrapes, bruises and road rash.

The company reported that 28,646 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and 316,500 were sold in the United States. The affected pedals were sold from January 2018 to March 2021.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected pedals and bring their bike or pedals to a Trek retailer for a free pedal replacement and installation.

For more information, consumers can contact Trek by telephone at 1-800-373-4594, Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm CT, by email at customercare@trekbikes.com; or visit the company's website.
