January 11/22 9:19 am - Cycling Canada Confirms 2022 Dates for UCI Track Nations Cup

Back in December, we broke the story that Canada would host a UCI Track Nations Cup in 2022 and 2023 at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario, [see Canada to Host UCI Track Nations Cup in 2022 & 2023], however, today Cycling Canada officially confirmed it will take place on May 12-15 this year. Canada also has a spot in 2022, with a first right of refusal for a 2024 edition. The Nations Cup series consists of three events each Spring, and has taken over for the World Cup. Milton has previously hosted World Cups (2017-2020) three times, as well as the Para Track World Championships (2020), and the Pan Am / Para Pan Am Games (2015).

"We are proud to announce the return of the Nations Cup in Milton after several months of discussions with the UCI," said Mathieu Boucher, Chief Development Officer at Cycling Canada. "We are optimistic that this event will be able to go forward as planned and will be a great way for spectators to support Canadian athletes who inspired us by delivering amazing performances in Tokyo while also having a positive economic impact at the local and provincial levels."

The first event in the two-year commitment will showcase all six Olympic events (Sprint, Keirin, Team Sprint, Team Pursuit, Omnium & Madison), as well as the Elimination Race, Individual Pursuit and Time Trial over four days of racing. Spectators can expect to see some of cycling's biggest stars in action, including Olympic Sprint gold medallist Kelsey Mitchell and Olympic Keirin bronze medallist, Lauriane Genest, both currently based in Milton.

"I love racing at home in front of my friends, family and community; the feeling of seeing every waving their Canadian flags and everyone cheering for Canada is hard to describe. I'm already counting down the days, and I hope the excitement around our success at the Olympics will continue at the Milton Nations Cup!"

As has been the case since the beginning of the pandemic, Cycling Canada will continue to operate events in a manner that supports first and foremost the health and safety of all participants, as well as the general public.
